03.18.2024
Rock arrives at the new City of Rock on the first day of the festival and the line-up continues to bring more and more reasons to confirm that there is Rock at Rock in Rio Lisboa! Rival Sons are the latest confirmation for the festival's new stage and will be performing on 15 June in the special edition celebrating the festival's 20th anniversary in Portugal. The Rock in Rio Lisboa concert is part of the Californian band's European tour, which will take place between June and July 2024, already known for the extensive tours to which it has accustomed its fans. To perform at Parque Tejo Lisboa, Rival Sons will bring the two albums released last year, "Darkfighter" and "Lightbringer", but also the hits with which they have won over legions of fans all over the world.
Vocalist Jay Buchanan took his first steps as a solo artist and Rival Sons was his first rock band. The enthusiasm with which the newly formed band's debut album, "Before the Fire", was received in 2009 led Jay Buchanan to dedicate himself to Rival Sons full-time. After astonishing critical and public acclaim, Rival Sons were invited to perform as a support band for AC/DC and Alice Cooper, and two years later, in 2011, they were recording their second album "Pressure & Time", which was considered Rival Sons' most outstanding work to date.
The album reached number one on Amazon's Hard Rock Best Sellers chart and number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100. Storm Thorgerson, who had designed album covers for Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Genesis, did the cover art pro bono because of his admiration for the band. In 2012, "Pressure & Time" was voted the second album of the year and Rival Sons were nominated in the "Breakthrough Artist of the Year" category by Classic Rock Magazine.
In 2016, after the release of "Hollow Bones", Rival Sons went on the road with two other iconic bands in rock history, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Three years later, the band released the album "Feral Roots", whose lead single "Do Your Worst" reached number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart. The album was nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2020, in the categories of "Best Rock Album" and "Best Rock Performance" for the song "Too Bad". In 2024, back on the road with two new albums to perform, Rival Sons return to Portugal to perform at Rock in Rio Lisboa!
