Born in Seattle, Washington, Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, artistically known as Macklemore, is an American rapper and producer who has always been strongly committed to working independently. In 2012 he joined forces with producer Ryan Lewis and released the album The Heist, which included hits such as "Thrift Shop" and "Can't Hold Us", catapulting him to international fame. With these two hits, he became one of only 19 artists in history to win two RIAA diamond singles on the same album. He also won 4 Grammys: "Best New Artist," "Best Rap Album" with The Heist, and "Best Rap Song" and "Best Rap Performance" with "Thrift Shop".
Throughout his remarkable career, he has won MTV Europe Music Awards, American Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards and almost 20 billion streams and views, making him one of the most successful independent artists in history.
In 2023 he produced his third album, entitled BEN, featuring big hits such as "CHANT" [feat. Tones and I], "MANIAC" [feat. Windser], and "NO BAD DAYS" [feat. Colete]. He recently released "HEROES" [feat. DJ Premier], which tells the story of growing up in the late nineties, where hip-hop, skateboarding and graffiti culture were in vogue.
His artistic career is characterised by a constant search for authenticity, reflected in his introspective lyrics. In addition to his musical expression, Macklemore supports artists from his hometown as co-founder of the hip-hop and youth development programme, The Residency. With an obvious passion for music, Macklemore continues to be an important figure in the industry, using his platform to address social issues such as consumption, the fight against addiction and equality, leaving his mark on society.
