Cyndi Lauper
June 27
Cyndi Lauper makes her long-awaited debut on the Rock in Rio Lisboa Main Stage — one of the most anticipated moments of the edition.
With her unmistakable voice, fearless attitude and a catalogue filled with timeless classics, she brings to the City of Rock a performance that bridges generations.
Lauper burst onto the scene in the early 1980s with She’s So Unusual, a global phenomenon driven by hits like Girls Just Want to Have Fun and Time After Time, both Top 5 on the Billboard charts and now permanent fixtures of pop culture. In 1986, she strengthened her iconic status with True Colors, which reached No. 4 on the Billboard charts and cemented her as one of the greatest voices of her time. Since then, she has released more than 10 albums, always remaining true to her artistic identity.
With more than 50 million records sold, Lauper’s career includes an extraordinary list of achievements: 15 Grammy nominations, two American Music Awards, seven American Video Awards, eighteen MTV Awards, and in 2013 she became the first woman to win a Tony Award solo for Best Original Score for Kinky Boots. She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (2015), received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (2016), the Billboard Women in Music ICON Award (2018), the United Nations High Note Global Prize (2019), is a New York Times bestselling author, and in 2024 was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Her documentary Let the Canary Sing premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival and launched globally on Paramount+ the following year.
In 2024 and 2025, Lauper embarked on the acclaimed Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour, an epic 68-date world tour that thrilled audiences worldwide. It concluded with two historic nights at the Hollywood Bowl, joined by legendary artists including Joni Mitchell, Cher, Angelique Kidjo, John Legend, SZA, Mickey Guyton, Trombone Shorty, Brandi Carlile, Billie Eilish and Jake Wesley Rogers. These concerts were recorded for the CBS special A GRAMMY® Salute to Cyndi Lauper: Live from the Hollywood Bowl.
Beyond the stage, Lauper is a long-standing activist for women’s rights and the LGBTQIA+ community. She co-founded True Colors United (2008), focused on addressing homelessness among LGBTQIA+ youth, and in 2022 created the Girls Just Want To Have Fundamental Rights fund supporting women’s rights and healthcare initiatives.
A defining figure of the 1980s and a cross-generational cultural icon, Cyndi Lauper joins Rod Stewart, 4 Non Blondes, Joss Stone, Xutos & Pontapés, GNR, UHF, Táxi and Syro for a day dedicated to celebrating legendary artists from Portugal and around the world.
